Many people have appreciated our Shredder Mill 340, but today’s larger tractors have created a demand for machines that can process corn more quickly. When we saw this demand, we knew we needed to design a bigger machine. And we thought that while we were making a bigger shredder, we’d also make a better one.

Introducing the Shredder Mill 2800 series

The Horning Shredder Mill 2800 series is the newest product in our lineup. With this mill, you’ll be able to process and bag high-moisture corn faster and easier than ever before.

Unlike some bagging systems, which require both a bagger and a mill, the 2800 improves the efficiency we began with our 340 series—it’s an all-in-one machine that both mills and bags your high-moisture corn. (Blower and auger-out models are coming soon.)

Self-powered, self-braking

With the 2800, you only need your tractor for positioning and for the PTO. We’ve kept the adjustable hitch for simple connections, and once you’re hitched up and have connected the PTO, you can leave the rest of the work to the mill.

The drive system on the 2800 is rated for 300hp, a step we took to ensure long-term durability. The easily-accessible system makes service a breeze.

Like the 340, the 2800 has its own hydraulic system, which means you won’t have to fuss with connecting hoses to your tractor, and you won’t be putting a load on your tractor’s hydraulics. With the 2800’s new on-demand pump, you won’t use any more fuel than needed to get the job done.

When we designed this new mill, we kept the disc brake system that we used on the 340. That way you won’t have the inconsistencies that come with using the tractor’s brakes. You’ll have the precise control that you need to adjust the fill rate of your ag bags. One other feature we kept from the 340 is the towing light design.

Improved auger design

We know there’s a lot to coordinate when you’re processing and bagging crops. Trying to get your wagon, mill, and bagger aligned – and keep them aligned as the bag fills – can take more time and concentration than it should. By combining operations into one piece of equipment, our 340 model took away the need to coordinate the mill and bagger positions. The 2800 now makes positioning even smoother.

The auger is longer than on the 340. It can also swing to both the left and right sides of the machine. This makes it possible to unload from either side. Just swing the auger into position, and the built-in hydraulics make raising and lowering it a cinch. If you’re working on hilly terrain, this versatile positioning system will make unloading a snap.

On the intake side of the auger, we traded the yellow poly hopper for one of heavy steel. Its wider, low-profile shape makes it easier to position under your wagon and greatly minimizes spillage.

Special features

With the variables that go into milling and filling storage bags, we wanted to make things as convenient as possible. That’s why we included these special features on the 2800.

Sample inspection drawer

While you’re milling, you want to keep an eye on your finished product. We’ve made it simple to check samples with a drawer on the left side of the machine.

Easy, one-man hoop changes

You can use 6′, 8′, or 10′ hoops with the 2800. With this model, we’ve turned hoop-swapping into a one-man job–a major advance. Unthread two bolts to free the hoop, then move it with your loader or lift. All  hoops come with a hook for convenient lifting.

Simple adjustments

Adjusting the mill rolls takes just one wrench. The belts are also quick-access and maintenance-friendly.

Cleanout compartment

Not everyone has the chance to keep equipment like this indoors. That means that from time to time, you’ll end up with water inside your mill. By installing two quick-release latches, we’ve made it so you can easily open up the lower shroud to drain out water and clean out any debris that has accumulated.

Liquid inoculation system

As an upgrade, you can order your 2800 with our bolt-on liquid inoculation system. It attaches to a post near the front of the machine, and there is a platform just below it for holding a drum.
